Easy tips for tackling winter dandruff

If your problem of dandruff aggravates during the winter, causing you much distress, then you are not alone. Dry and itchy scalp with uncontrollable dandruff is common during winters. The cold weather is harsh and our scalp suffers the most.

Dry, flaky snowfall on your shoulders is enough to drive people away. It is important that you treat dandruff right at its onset, to save yourself serious scalp problem and public humiliation!

  • Hot oil: Dandruff is a residual of dry skin. Winter is an enemy of moisture. During the cold season, your skin, including the scalp, is robbed of moisture and that is why it feels dry. Ensuring that your scalp receives proper and enough moisture will go a long way in avoiding dandruff. Massage your scalp and hair with lukewarm oil – preferably coconut, almond or olive oil. Do this once or twice a week.
  • Mild shampoo: Most cosmetic shampoos are laden with chemicals and harmful ingredients. Such products can cause serious imbalance in your pH level. Chemicals can cause further dryness to your scalp. It is important that you use mild or organic shampoo that only washes away the dirt and grease off your hair. Conditioning your hair is also important. No matter how mild the shampoo is, it can wash off the essential oils from your scalp. To ensure that the scalp and hair is properly moisturized, use a moisturizing conditioner as well.
  • Diet: Dryness of the scalp and skin can also be due to too much acid in your diet. Cut down on junk food, spicy and hot dishes. Include seasonal vegetables and fruits in your diet as much as you can. What you eat reflects on your skin and hair as well. Too much greasy food in your diet can lead to oily dandruff, which is even more difficult to get rid of.
  • Aspirin: If there were a successful medication for dandruff, it would be an Aspirin. If your dandruff problem is too severe, crush two tablets of Aspirin t make it into powder. Mix this with your usual amount of shampoo you use for washing your hair. Use this no more than once a week and stop after your dandruff problem is gone.
  • Lemon: Many times, the fridge is a chemist and you can get so many handy ingredients to cure your scalp problem! Lemon is a tried and tested ingredient that successfully cures dandruff. Take some lemon juice and massage on your scalp. Wash it off with lukewarm water. Repeat this daily and soon your dandruff problem will be history!
